It was a very exciting meeting many of you missed. I realize vacation (or the rain) kept many of you from attending but this is a little of what you missed:
For October's meeting, we will be planning the strategies for working with:
1. Officer Espinoza from the Raleigh PD and the community--around the holiday theme. Please refer families that need "kids" gifts for their "OFFICER and KID SHOPPING" program. We'd like to refer at least 5 Raleigh-need-based families.
2. Raleigh's Community Health Assessment "zones" meeting coming up in October to ensure that the Latino voice is not lost in identifying the priorities and actions to work on the issues identified. Presentation tonight put a lot for us to work on in the coming 3 years. More opportunities to get involved! Go to page 50 of the report (read it all) to see what the Latino Focus Group provided as concerns (thanks to the ALPES members in attendance that day!): http://www.wakegov.com/wellbeing/Documents/2016%20Wake%20County%20CHNA%20Full%20Document%20Final.pdf.
3. I forgot to mention that I was interviewed by the Heart Truth researchers (how we started out in 2015--February). They'd like to know how we plan to continue the "heart disease is the #1 cause of death in women" message within our community. I hope we can take that challenge on and have a BIG event in February to get us all being more heart-healthy!
Anyone want to take on any of these as a "chair", let me know! Eva will get out the minutes later this week. Look at our web page for more details (Luke is on vacation so the blog is "quiet" for another week.)
